At the conference, women revealed their hearts.
One woman bravely shared, “Who would want me?”
We all responded with a sympathetic, “Oh.”
And although the response came from a place of love and wanting to help, what we unintentionally said was, I don’t feel that way.
This can separate rather than unite.
As women, we need to identify with each other. The better response might be, “Amen Sister—been there!” Because truly, we’ve all felt like her at one time or another. Or maybe still do.
So there you have it. A word I will never again say: A sympathetic, “Oh,” replying to someone’s tender heart.
Instead, I might say, “Yep, me too.” Or maybe nothing at all.
