Babbie Mason is a pretty amazing woman. If being a guest on her show, Babbie’s House, wasn’t enough, visiting with Babbie off set sent me over the moon! While chatting, we realized that we share the same heartbeat; building up women. This godly woman left an impression on me. And if I’m doing life right, that’s exactly how I should be— transferring a bit of Jesus to each person I encounter.
As the cameras were rolling, we discussed issues that pertain to women. One topic I really wanted to camp on (but because of time constraints we couldn’t) was how we, as women, compare ourself to others. We discussed how the media paints a picture of what women are supposed to look like. Babbie looked at me and said, “When I look to the media or I’m waiting in line at the grocery store, and I see an image of what I’m supposed to look like, that puts up a wall between me and her…So where does that leave a person like me, who is older, a grandmother, black and with hips?” We could have done a whole show on this topic alone.
I want to remind, if only for myself, that no matter how beautiful a woman is on the outside, she can still feel the same thing that we all feel all the inside: Not good enough, not beautiful enough, not smart enough, not brave enough, not successful enough, not strong enough…
You are enough to God. Don’t compare yourself to someone else. You are enough just the way you are.
I left Georgia changed by the inspiration of a life well lived—just by visiting with a beautiful sister. Stunning on the outside and a beauty from within.
