Have you ever received a love letter that just touched your heart and moved your soul?
When David and I were dating in high school, David wrote me many love letters and poems, and sent them by way of messenger— one of his friends would deliver them to my classroom. Later, I found out that David would “hire out” a friend to write the poetry. But whether he was the author of all of them or not, his love greetings found their way into my heart.
This Christmas, I received a love letter. Although different from David’s love letters, it was similar because it came from a deep place of the heart. It’s difficult to share feelings—especially for this very special, close friend. And although I have to re-write some of the words because quite frankly, you wouldn’t understand the letter if I shared it verbatim. You see, we have a special way we talk with each other and that’s just for us. But in essence, here is what my love letter said:
Merry Christmas. You make me proud everyday—ministering to so many, doing all you do. I am so lucky to be apart of your family. You’re the most amazing buddy. After all these years, I’m still scared of you in the morning. Those times I’ve accidentally woken you up— I’m glad I’ve been able to do so, and still live to tell about it. I love you~
The words danced off the page and into my soul. Cherished. Loved. Remembered. As my heart welled up and my eyes began to water, all I could say was, “Awe, I love you too.”
Words are powerful.
