“Ding!” The text message alerted and I looked away from my computer to read it. “Sis, I’d like to pray for you before you leave for the conference.”
Staring at my phone, I longed for her intercession. The conference was one day away and even though I was excited, there was a deep question that I didn’t want to surface.
Do I dare to hope?
Returning to my phone I replied, “I would love that!”
That night, holding true to her word, she called to pray.
With eyes closed, one hand holding the phone and the other open to receive the blessing, she prayed over me.
Her faith-filled words were bold with belief. “Father, thank you for my sweet Sister. I’m so proud of her. Thank you for sending Dawna to this conference. Let her hear Your whisper over the noise, and feel Your personal presence in crowded spaces. We know that the doors You open no one can shut, and the doors You close no one can open. We trust You. Remind Dawna that her hope does not rest in anything but You. Not in her success or what she does. Her hope is in You alone. In Jesus awesome name we pray, amen.”
At that moment, I chose to lay down my expectations and dreams on the alter of sacrifice—allowing Him to be my deepest desire. Flooded with new perspective, I was ready to step out in faith.
Armed and strengthened through prayer, I set off to North Carolina. Knowing that I will never be disappointed when my hope rests in Him alone.
“But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.” Psalm 39:7 NIV
