The Southeast Christian Church sanctuary was just about empty. Even though the service had ended, a few people peppered the isles as I chatted with my friend.
“What are you doing the rest of the weekend, Dawna, dear?”
“I’m preparing for a speaking engagement—speaking to Pastors and their wives, about grace.”
“Grace, huh? They couldn’t have chosen a better person. You live grace.”
Me? Living out grace? Did she drink too much communion juice?
She selected her words meticulously from the bookshelf of her mind. Each word a gift offering that strengthened my spirit. I grasped each precious one and placed them in my heart, as she recollected me living out grace. Embraced by words, I, like Mary, treasured the utterances. It was beautiful—like a honeycomb, sweet to my soul.
“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19
Words are used to win arguments, to get my way, to look better than I actually am…… Rarely are words carefully selected like a hand-picked present, chosen to delight the receiver.
In their blog, Words Speak Life, Carla, Christine and Sally speak about the power of our words. “Words come as needed in that moment, hour, day – consistent and life giving.”
My friend’s words came at just the right time and echoed in the sanctuary of my heart. Though I fail time and time again, I still live moments of grace. So do you.
Let’s go light up the world today with words that strengthen and inspire. Because, like me, someone is out there waiting to be embraced by words.
What words were gifted to you that you ponder in your heart?
“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24
