Do you remember being in elementary school on Valentine’s Day? We would tape a paper bag to our desk so our classmates could drop valentine cards into it. Each lonely sack waited expectantly, hoping to catch admiration. Anticipation built all day, until the card exchange took place. Would someone give me a card and if so, who? The popular kid? The cute guy in class?
We all want to be chosen, don’t we?
This week on Valentine’s Day, I taped a paper bag to my husband’s desk with a love letter inside. I told him that I purposefully picked him, and that I would choose him all over again. I listed all the ways he makes me feel, then I asked if he’d continue to be my Valentine.
You guys, he said, “Yes!”
Today, tell someone that they are loved. Let them know that they’re noticed, and that you’re grateful for them.
Because maybe, just maybe, you know someone who didn’t get a Valentine’s Day card in their paper bag.
And they just need to know that they are wanted. And chosen.
