The email came at 11:11 p.m.
Hi Dawna! I interviewed you almost two years ago on our radio show. Since then, God has opened some amazing doors for us. We know you have an active blog, but we are curious if you would be interested in writing a column in Positive Note Magazine. Check out the website and let’s set up a time to talk.
I sent back a reply asking questions about the magazine, what was expected of me, and told Joanie that I’d need to pray about it. Oh and one last thing, I said in my email response; Why do feel God has placed me on your heart to write for Positive Note Magazine?
Joanie wrote back and answered all my questions and ended with this paragraph:
Your book made quite an impact on my heart when I read it in preparation for our interview back in the summer of 2014. I did not quite realize the magnitude until in the fall of 2014 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a few walls that I needed to let God crush for me. Your blogs are real and God centered. Positive Note Magazine is just that, a Positive Note. We want our readers to know that no matter what they are facing, God is here for them. God inspired you with the words in your book and blog. We want you to share that with our readers.
I looked at Joanie’s words and then glanced at my email address. This has to be a mistake…she must be thinking of someone else.
But she wasn’t, she was addressing me.
After much prayer, I felt peace about moving forward to write for Positive Note Magazine and accepted the invitation.
So here’s where I get real with you. I feel so inadequate to write anything. Words…discovering how I feel…then articulating those feelings is not something that comes naturally for me. I’m so unqualified for the task. Besides, my studies were in the sciences— biology and chemistry. Yet, I know God has called me to do this writing thing.
If you are like me, you might feel inadequate too. But let me reassure you that if He’s called you to it, He will help you do it. Don’t waste time on feelings of incompetency. If God is asking you to step out in faith and do something that you never thought possible, or that you feel incapable of doing, do it.
Yes, do it.
Whatever you’re being called to do.
God uses nobodies and only He can make us somebody.
…And sometimes He creates in us new gifts…ones that weren’t originally designed. Or maybe they were there all along, waiting to be discovered, but we just couldn’t identify them until this very moment in time. Gifts we never dreamed possible.
What do you feel incapable of that God is calling you to do?
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
