I blinked through my morning haze, trying to piece together why I was alone in a spacious bed. I glanced at the stone walls. Ah yes, I’m at a Villa. Oh my goodness! I’m in Italy…in an Italian Villa! Thoughts began to take shape and I remembered that David and Joey had left the day before to ride motorcycles at a famous racetrack. I inhaled deeply, taking in the room’s scent—damp and musty with an occasional whiff of sweet lilies from the garden outside my door.
On the nightstand, I saw the journal that a friend gave me just before I left for my trip. Handing it to me she said, “Dawna dear, don’t just experience Italy, feel it.” I had made my first entry on the plane ride to Italy.
Reaching over, I grabbed it and traced my finger over the foreign words on the journal’s cover that supposedly said, “It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”
Opening it, I read my previous night’s entry—written just before going to bed.
Tomorrow I will… kiss my husband when he returns from the racetrack and tell him I’m so happy he’s back.
Tomorrow I will…share homemade pizza with the one I love.
Tomorrow I will…be present with everyone.
Tomorrow I will not… be self conscious.
Tomorrow I will not…live in fear.
Tomorrow I will not…make excuses.
I rolled over onto my tummy and began writing.
Today I will…not only kiss my husband when he returns, but I will run to greet him, embrace him and tell him how much he was missed.
Today I will…experience each flavor of our home-cooked pizza and treasure each bite.
Today I will…listen deeply and love mightily.
Today I will…embrace my beauty and thank God for the precise way He created me.
Today I will…delight in challenges and be steadfast in whatever comes my way.
Today I will…do everything God has called me to do and then hand over my dreams to Him.
I closed my journal, feeling empowered and ready to start the day.
What plans stretch out before you this day? How will you approach each moment? You fill in the blank… Today I will…
