She has known me since I was fifteen years old.
She loved me through the big hair eighties.
Watched me grow in the nineties—the Walkman era. Music you can hear while you walk without carrying a boombox!!!!
She stood by my side through the two thousands, praying David and I through the economy crises.
And now, she continues to encourage through the twenty tens.
She does it often and I’m not sure if she knows how much it means to me. She inspires, loves, and helps me grow.
I most recently caught her secretly conducting encouragement. Hidden behind her phone, with her undercover fingers texting late each night. She said that she would text me every evening I was away.
I was addicted to the the messages and looked forward to every late night note.
What would she say?
One night exhausted and coming in quite late, I was startled with the expected, but forgotten nightly message.
The wonderment of her messages were simply inspiring and expected no response. Nightly, she was faithful to hit send before she went to sleep. No retort needed. My hungry eyes read the words like a starving bird in winter. I devoured each letter. They fed me love.
Night one: Night, night. Love you.
Night Two: Hope you had a beautiful day. God bless and good night.
Night Three: May the rest of your time be blessed. Love you.
Nothing fancy, just reminders of love. Each night, I was drawn to my phone to see what she would say next. Her loyal letters continued night after night. They simply reminded me that I was thought of, prayed over and loved.
Yes, encouragement is the word of the day.
Have you sent a love reminder lately?
