I watched in suspense as Captain Sully (played by Tom hanks) waded through the icy cold water that filled the plane. He looked for remaining passengers. “Hello!? Anyone else here?” He’s called various times by the flight attendants, “Sully, you must evacuate now!” He searched one last time to make certain that no one was left behind and that everyone was safe. Finally, he exited the plane.
Last night, we had our Jericho Girls leader’s meeting. I replayed this scene for the ladies. “This is what great leaders do. We make sure that every woman lands safely. Assisting each one from their plane of hurt, mistrust, fear…ensuring that everyone is secure.”
I looked at one of our leaders as tears welled in her eyes and said, “You are making a difference in the lives of women.”
Our teacher, Carol, wrapped up the evening after a fantastic teaching and spiritual practice. She left us lingering on these words: “We must operate in God’s strength. That’s how we are able to lead in a great way. If we want to be a real friend, we first need to be a real friend with Jesus.”
“Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends.” John 15:11-15 MSG.
