After wishing my Mother-in-love a final happy birthday and saying goodbye, I hopped into the hotel shuttle.
The driver asked me, “How old is your mother?”
“Eighty. Yesterday was her birthday. We had a wonderful celebration. Now I’m going home to Denver.”
“It’s my birthday today.”
“Well, happy birthday!”
The driver, Luis moved from surface conversation to deep. And while I’m not one for early morning conversation, his vulnerability drew me in.
“I used to have a job working for the studio that paid three times what this one does. In 2009, I lost my job. And my wife. She left me when I was down and out. God places us in unexpected situations to grow us.”
Luis continued. “We have to love one another in the good times and bad.” His voice trailed off.
“My husband and I went through a financial crises too. I understand how difficult it can be.”
He returned from deep thought. “But God walks with us into new seasons, and in all things, He’s working on our behalf. The journey will change you. For the better—if you let it.”
The quick drive to the Flyway bus station, made for a short but rich conversation. His words resonated. Love one another.
In a simple ride to the bus terminal, God used this man to speak words of encouragement to my soul.
Luis felt like his job was less than his old job. But really, he has been given the gift of speaking into lives. I wish I would have told him how important his new job is.
Even when you don’t think you are making an impact, you are.
Speak life into someone today.
