It is what it is

I’ve despised this statement my whole life.  So when I hear someone say, “Well, it is what it is,” I translate it into passivity. I’m a doer and I bring change.

However, through my trials over the last few years, I’ve given in to the lie that nothing is changeable; and slowly started accepting it.

I’m reading my friend’s book, Risk the Real by Allen Arnold. His words have been profound in so many ways, but his perspective on this brought new meaning and hope.

“With God, it is what it is…only until it isn’t.”

That one sentence ignited a fire within.

I saw the problem and solution in a new light.

I realized I can state the circumstance that seems unchangeable, but it doesn’t have to define the outcome.

I also saw that I was relying on myself to bring about change and leaving God out of the equation.

Perhaps things are what they are, but they are until they aren’t—as long as God is God. He might ask me to do something about the situation and He might not. But with Him all things are possible.

Allen goes on to say, “ Things never have to remain just what they are because God is continually creating, redeeming and transforming. What appears inevitable…actually isn’t.”

Mic drop. There’s nothing left to say.

Maverick sits on the deck watching deer pass. Because he’s a dog, I believe with all my heart that he watches the situation with hope and expectation of meeting those deer.

Because, “With God, it is what it is…only until it isn’t.”

“Jesus looked hard at them and said, ‘No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.’”  Matthew 19:26 The Message~
