Life lessons from the South
Once a year, I go on a girls trip with my best friend, Julieann, whom I call “Buddy.”
We’ve been friends for over 38 years. This year’s trip was to South Carolina and Georgia.
Every time I’m with her, I inadvertently learn new life lessons and discover a deeper dimension within.
First, the life lessons from our adventures.
I left for this trip with sadness in my heart just one week after losing our thirteen-year-old Husky, Zorro. But what I discovered is that even when you’re hurting, you can still make room in your heart for love and laughter.
We rented electric bikes and had a blast. Buddy was doing more pedaling than she needed to. So when she discovered that I was only using the throttle, we laughed at the realization of why she was so tired from biking and I wasn’t. Always try something new.
The first place we visited, had alligator danger signs. We both don’t like reptiles, but we decided to stay at ease. Although life dangers lurk, live without fear.
Buddy is always hot and I’m always cold, but we somehow find our happy medium. Despite difference, there’s always a solution.
We went to Daufuskie Island and tooled around on a golf cart. We dreamed of what we might do if we lived on this Island with no law enforcement and few neighbors.
Buddy said that she would open a restaurant for tourist arriving on the early boat—since nothing there opens until 10:30 am and everyone lives on island time. She’d make breakfast and homemade pies.
I decided I’d head up law enforcement and sell real estate. I liked this particular house as my first listing.
It’s good for the soul to explore your dreams.
We were chatting while entering the site of Angel Oak Tree when we beheld this 400-year-old oak with octopus arms. Suddenly we had no words. She spanned 65 feet in height and 25 feet in circumference. We were in awe. https://www.charleston-sc.gov/153/Angel-Oak
Something amazingly stunning will always silence chatter.
We found this quaint little cider company/general store in the middle of nowhere and we decided, it’s good to be spontaneous and there’s ALWAYS time for coffee breaks.
I loved being at the beach. There’s something about the salty air and sound of the waves that is so freeing. It’s good to just be uniquely YOU!
Next week, I will share the discovered deeper dimension withinIn. In the meantime, will you join me and incorporate one of these life lesson today?
