Number my days
January is my birthday month.
Today, I’m reflecting on Psalm 90:12 (NIV):
“Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
I think about the time I’ve already lived. On Sunday, it will be 19,710 days.
That number surprises me. It in itself, doesn’t seem very large, but when I think about my life over the years, some things feel like a lifetime ago.
I consider what I’ve recently discovered.
If the grinch tries to steal your joy, surround yourself with laughter and a good friend. We are relational beings.
Wake up early to enjoy a sunrise. “His mercies are new every morning.”
Make time for adventure. And venture with those whom you love.
Search for the unseen. The stars are always present, even when we can’t see them. God is with us even when it doesn’t appear like He is.
Take time to float. Rest is good for the soul.
Ditch the fancy anniversary dinner to play in the sand. Some of the most precious moments are found in spontaneity.
There are signs everywhere, you just have to look for them. Be aware, live in wonder.
Take time to smoke a stogie. Laughter really is medicine for the soul.
I bring myself back to the present once again (I have to do this continually). My time is limited and this moment is all I truly have. And that is wisdom.
Happy birthday to all my fellow January birthday “month” friends. May we become wise.
“So teach us to count our days,
so that we will become wise.” Psalm 90:12 (CJB)
Do you have any new discoveries to share? I’d love to hear them.
