The shortest day, the longest shadow.

It is the  astronomical winter solace, making it the shortest day of the year.

Why in the world would a sun-lover like me be excited? Because tomorrow, the days only get longer. And eventually warmer.

At noon today, I will stand outside to see my longest cast shadow of the year.

I expect questions to come to light. And hopefully, answers.

What in me might be illuminated that would cast out darkness?

Is there anything that looms ahead that could be transformed into bright hope?

What gloom of the past should I let go of so I can focus on the radiance of the future?

Can I find contentment in the shortest light-filled day of the year?

Will you stand outside with me today on the shortest day and take in your longest shadow?

What questions illuminate?

Happy first day of winter!
