Tug Of War

A tug of war ensues within.

Hope pulled against uncertainty. Uncertainty yanked back.

The future, so, unresolved.

A songbird lulls me to the present moment.

This is where I should dwell.

I breathe in expectation of a new season. Spring is approaching.

I reflect.

“I have learned to be content regardless of circumstances.I know what it is to be in want, and I know what it is to have more than enough — in everything and in every way I have learned the secret of being full and being hungry, of having abundance and being in need.I can do all things through him who gives me power.”

—Philippians 4:11-13 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Google defines content as, “In a state of peaceful happiness.”

I insert those words into the scripture. I have learned to be in a state of peaceful happiness regardless of circumstances.

Living this is the classroom of well-being.

The “secret” of embracing both difficulties and goodness is classified orders for God’s people.

I acknowledge that hope and uncertainty can have their pull. The real tug of war is living content in all situations.

But how?

Would a curious mindset lead to expectation and disperse fear?

What if I reeled in all worry of the unknown and gently reinforced wonderment and awe about the future?

Wow, God! I’m excited to watch how You provide. I love adventuring with You.

This healing will be the biggest miracle I’ve seen so far. I can hardly wait to see You make this transformation.

Or,

This circumstance seems unbearable, Father. What will I discover through this?

What if today you and I, applied this way of be-ing?

Will you join me in awakening our curiosity?

Let’s proclaim, “I have learned to be in a state of peaceful happiness regardless of circumstances. And I’m curious to see how God will work this together for good.”

I’d love to hear what you discover.
